5 Reasons Why You Should Start Buying Bamboo Lingerie

Bamboo has gained popularity in the past decade as people find more ways to live a more eco-friendly lifestyle to save the environment. Bamboo is an eco-friendly crop that is being used for a multitude of applications.

In the form of textile, it is used to make apparel, bamboo underwear, bathroom essentials, healthcare linens, and many more. While all of these applications are widely accepted and used now, it seems that the most popular use is in the manufacture of lingerie.

But why should you choose underwear made from bamboo fabric? What is so special about it?

What Is Bamboo Lingerie?

Simply put, it is a line of intimate clothing such as bras and underwear made from bamboo fabric. Bamboo fabric is made from the pulp extracted from bamboo that goes through the mechanical process of shedding to form the bamboo fibre that is spun into yarn and subsequently woven into bamboo fabric.

Bamboo fabric is one of the softest fabrics in the world, comparable to silk and cashmere. The fibres are naturally rounded and smooth without any spikes, making them great for all-day wear without causing any skin irritations, such as bamboo underwear and bras.

Why You Should Choose Bamboo Lingerie

Before, the only fabrics known for use in the manufacture of lingerie were silk and cotton. But due to the rising awareness of the degradation of the environment, researchers are constantly trying to find alternatives to the traditional materials being used, and bamboo fabric is one of them.

Bamboo is a fast-growing plant that needs very little care. Fertilisers and pesticides are unnecessary due to the plant’s ability to thrive in harsh conditions and its antibacterial properties. It can also regrow at a fast speed when culled, making it a highly cost-effective eco-crop.

On the other hand, cotton has been known to be the “dirtiest” crop on the planet, needing thousands of litres of water, time-consuming management, the use of toxic pesticides and fertiliser to grow.

This comparison alone is enough to make you want to switch to bamboo lingerie right away. But here are more reasons why:

  • Softest Fabric

Bamboo fabric is known to be as soft or even softer than silk and cashmere. This is because of the micro-gaps and micro-holes in the fibres. The processing of bamboo pulp into fibre also doesn’t use too many chemicals, which results in rounded and naturally smooth fibres without spikes. This texture makes lingerie made from bamboo fabric comfortable to wear the whole day.

  • Antibacterial

The bamboo plant has an intrinsic bacteriostatic bio-agent known as the Bamboo Kun found in its components, the lignin. This makes the use of pesticides and insecticides unnecessary. Some studies show evidence of bamboo being antifungal as well. The processing of the plant to make bamboo fabric does not take away these intrinsic properties making bamboo lingerie hygienic for everyday use.

  • Deodorising

Because of the antibacterial properties of bamboo fabric, the possibility of bacteria and fungus to grow and thrive in it is low. Without any microbial colonies, there won’t be any causative factors for unusual smells.

  • High Rate of Absorption

Bamboo is more absorbent than cotton. It can absorb 30% more than cotton can. Bamboo fabric doesn’t just absorb moisture away from the skin. It will also move the liquid from the inner layer to the outside to evaporate faster, leaving the wearer feeling dry and fresher longer.

  • Thermal Control

The moisture-wicking property contributes to the thermal control of the fabric. Other than this, the presence of micro-gaps in the fabric and the way the fabric is woven contribute to the control of the temperature of the wearer’s body.

These are some of the reasons why many women have started buying bamboo underwear. Not only are they comfortable, but they are also made from an eco-friendly material that is durable, stretchable, and sustainable.
